We have lift off!

Ok, it's actually rolling over but that didn't sound as cool! Makenna decided this morning that she was sick of tummy time and rolled herself over to her back. She looked surprised to see me sitting next to her then put her hand in her mouth like "Mom, I'm starving". Little stinker! I put her back on her tummy to see if she'd do it again and of course she wouldn't. Fine by me!! We don't need movement quite yet! She's also blowing bubbles but has been doing this for a week or so. I have to make sure to blog about all of this as I'm a horrible "baby book journaler". I mean how can that be? I'm a scrapbooker for the love of God! oh well. At least when I do finally pull out her baby book and update it, all I have to do is come to my handy dandy blog and write the info down.

Question for everyone that swaddled their LOs... how long did you swaddle them? When did you start weaning them off of it? Jen?

Question about naps....when did you start doing scheduled naps? I just let M nap when she wants too. I don't ~put her down~ for naps. Should I be doing that? I really don't want to get into a rigid schedule of she has to nap from this time to this time because I really like the flexibility I have with her. She's also a really good sleeper in the car and stroller so I know that I wouldn't have to go home for nap time. What do you think?

I knew she was strong! Doesn't surprise me that she rolled over already. Um, we didn't swaddle much so I don't know. We didn't schedule naps until a little older. Seemed like they just sorta did it themselves.. hmmm I'm thinking like 6 mo old they started doing a morning nap and an afternoon nap.

We just let our kids create their own nap schedule - I'd say it became more concrete between 6 to 9 months. I think flexibility is a busy moms best friend - you don't want to get stuck with a baby who ONLY can sleep in THEIR crib at a specific time...just my 2 cents...

I didn't get Jillian weaned from her swaddle until she was 6 months old. First I had the challenge of getting her weaned from the swing, and that took until about 5 months old, so I didn't even attempt the swaddle until after that. Even then, we finally had to just go cold turkey and we had some rough nights. What I think really made the difference is when she learned to roll from back to front...apparently she prefers to be a belly sleeper.

On the nap thing, we still do not have a schedule. If we don't throw things off too much with outings, then generally there is a morning nap and an afternoon one. But lengths and times vary greatly. We're just so on the go, that as long as she is in good spirits I'm not worrying about a routine too much.

When I weaned my babies from swaddling it was usually when they would get their arms out on their own. Then I swaddled them with their arms untucked a few times till they got used to it. My kids had a schedule by about 3-4 months-they kinda set it themselves. They are very predictable now, but if we need to be flexible a day here and there they adjust well. The structure is good for my kids and myself--they know what to expect and I know when I get a break!
