My doctor's appt

I have my 6 week postpartum appt this morning. Dr. R was on vacation last week so it's actually 7.5 weeks but I was completely fine with that! No need to rush things;) So M and I are heading out and about in the rainy cool weather. I need to get M more cool weather clothes as I have barely any pants or long sleeve outfits for her in the 0-3 month sizes. Sounds like I need to shop!! It's going to be a good day:)

I had a couple of hours off yesterday due to Grandma watching M while I ran errands and rode my horse. Grandmas are a wonderful thing!! They rate up there with an amazing glass of wine, superb chocolate and a sleeping baby! Nothing better than those things!! M & Grandma get along so well that I don't have any worries about leaving them together. I think it might be trouble later on as they will probably be leading eachother astray!

Question for you guys... M has her 2 month appointment appt next Friday. That's the one with the first set of shots (4). Did you give your LO tylenol before the appt to help with the pain and generally icky feeling of the shots? Anything else you did to make them more comfortable?

Mindless Monday!

There is someone in this household that decided that she was not going back to sleep this morning and has since boycotted all naps except a short 1 hour "lunch time" nap. I thought babies are suppose to sleep?!! Not to mention the whole crabby-ness factor is on the rise due to the lack of napping/sleep. So since ~someone~ is wide awake.... and it's NOT me.... we've decided to try out all the fun things we have for her such as the Baby Bj.orn (a little too big for her as her legs don't look comfortable at all in that thing), the Bu.mbo (she sits great in this thing!), the umbrella stroller (too big) and that's it if I remember correctly. It would be SO nice if she would be interested in the pacifer to help soothe her but she' s really not buying it. It lasts for about 30 secounds at the most then she spits it out. Just not a fan! We're heading outside next since Miss Thing likes the stroller and often sleeps in it! Here's to hoping!!

I'll leave you with pics of the princess!

What a week!

We have been having a blast here! Makenna is growing like a little weed. She's smiling like crazy and starting to giggle. She's more interested in looking around and wants to sit facing away from me so she can check everything out. Except when she's tired... then she loves snuggling right under my chin. It's so sweet. I was hoping to post pics but I haven't been down to my scraproom with my computer for a couple of days. I'm using the old laptop which is handy but older than sin so it's pretty slow. I told Lance I want a laptop but it has to have enough memory for my photoshop and not too big and bulky plus it MUST be purple! He called me today to tell me he found a laptop for me... I said is it purple? (dell makes a purple one!)... he said no....I said then I don't want it! I WANT PURPLE! So anyway...I'm hoping to get down to my computer today but by the time Makenna is sleeping at night, I'm so tired that I just want to go to bed! She's really not sleeping much during the day so I have very limited free time.

Last night, Makenna, my mom and I went to the barn and I rode my horse. I SO missed riding!! Faith is doing awesome! I can't wait to show her again. Faith was not too sure about Makenna's stroller at first! It was pretty funny. Then she warmed up to it and loved smelling Makenna. Makenna really didn't care about Faith... she kinda looked at her but that was it.

Makenna is squirming around in her bouncy seat... she's seriously the cutest baby ever!! I know every mom says that but I just want to squish her chubby cheeks! Love her to pieces!

Lily's garden is in full bloom! It's absolutely gorgeous! Those are also some of the pics that I will post once I get my butt downstairs.

I'm really yearning for some quality scrap time... maybe this weekend. I want to make a mini-album for my Grandma, print some pictures and do some photoshop work. I also want to finish knitting a couple of hats for Makenna. We'll see how time goes:)

No longer a newborn.

I am currently packing up all of Makenna's newborn clothes and diapers as they are just too small for her. I had to get our car seat instructions out too as the newborn insert is only good for so many pounds and I couldn't remember what it was. It's good for 4-11 lbs. We have .5 lb to go...
The crib sleeping is going great. She doesn't seem to mind at all so I'm going to take down the pack-n-play in our room. We do need to pick up a mobile so she has something to entertain her while she's lying there. The pack-n-play had little animals hanging over her and she loved to look at them.
Makenna is 6 weeks old tomorrow so I'm going to do a little photo shoot of her... not like we don't already have tons of pics of this child but you can never have too many!
I'm going to ride my horse tomorrow for the 1st time in many many months. When I say "ride" I'm actually just going to sit on her and walk around 1st. We'll see how everything feels and go from there.
Lance and I are going on a date tomorrow evening... dinner and a movie! Makenna is going to spend some good quality time with Grandma (my mom). It will be fun and very good for us! I hate to even admit that we're going to a kids movie because I want to see a movie in 3-D. I've never seen a 3-D movie so I want to see Ice Age 3!! I want to see Harry Potter too but I'll wait until it's been in the theater for a little while.

I've also discovered the secret to getting Makenna to quit screaming at bedtime/late evenings... I put my IPod in last night because my ears were killing me. Then I started singing completely inappropriate songs to her... I did edit the swearing out but not the ~smut~! tee hee hee She loved it though! I'm a NOT a singer but she just loved when I was singing to her or just in general so I'm going to try the IPod thing tonight too. Hopefully I wasn't just a one hit wonder!!

Bullet post

I need to write down Makenna's tidbits or I'm going to forget them. Then when I try to scrapbook or write all the memories in her baby book, I'm never going to remember them. Pregnancy brain has turned into a slightly better/retaining more new mom brain! YAY!

  • We call Makenna "peanut" because she was so little when she was born... that has turned into me calling her "peanut butter cup" as I LOVE PB cups!! Plus she looks more like a PB cup now! I stepped on the scale (I'm down 1 more lb!! Not the point though!) then I stepped on with Makenna. Is it even possible that she weighs 10 lbs now?! I stepped back on the scale and sure enough... 10 lb baby! No wonder why her newborn clothes and diapers don't fit anymore.
  • I'm officially packing up her newborn clothes and diapers for storage... for the next one. EEK! 1st - I can't believe that she's outgrown her clothes already. 2nd - the next one! EEK! That's all I'm going to say about that for at least 6 months - 1 year. I've been pregnant for FAR too long to be thinking more pregnancy!
  • We're struggling through some bf issues but I think I have a handle on what the problem is... over-supply. I was thinking this might be this but it was confirmed today when poor Makenna was crying after feeding for a few minutes then pulled off the "girl" and it literally sprayed breastmilk all over her cheek! I have never seen anything like it. I quickly covered it up and made her a bottle of pumped milk. Poor M! That made her much happier.
  • Makenna is a whole array of sounds, grunts and noises. We need to video/tape her because it is so funny.
  • We moved M to her own room and crib 2 nights ago. She has been ready since day 1 but I haven't been. Lance could care less as he's not home except on the weekends. She's doing really well with it. So am I! I do check on her a lot before I go to bed but oh well! I plan on taking down her pack and play and removing it from our room by the end of the week if everything continues to go well.
  • Her hair is growing really well in the back and filling in on the top but it still looks a little "mullet-ish".
  • Makenna is starting to smile a lot when I talk to her especially in the morning. She even kind of giggles like she thinks she's funny. It is so cute!
  • I can't believe this little ray of sunshine (most of the time!) has been with us for 6 weeks this Saturday! Where does the time go?
  • I just signed up for this class. Ria did M's newborn photos which were so fabulous. I can't wait to learn more about photography and the ability to use my camera from her! Hopefully I can take some awesome 6 month photos of her myself after this class. Granted they won't be "Ria" quality but hopefully they are nice enough to use.
  • How many diet dews a day is too much? I ALWAYS have at least 1 when I'm not pregnant but often another one sneaks it's way into my mouth:/ What do you think?
  • I have my 6 week post partum check up in 2 weeks because Dr. R is on vacation next week. YIKES! Then guess what?! I can honestly say I'm NOT looking forward to what comes next. Lance is... of course. YIKES!
  • I'm hoping to get some good quality scrapping time in this weekend as I'd like to apply for a Design Team. We'll see how that goes. I have until the end of July to apply.

Much loved Monday!

Now WHO would think a Monday is loved? Well I, for one, love this Monday. Lance is still home and Makenna is actually napping in her swing... after a screaming fit but we're not going to focus on the negative:) Miss Makenna actually blessed us with 2 nights of sleeping through the night!! Friday nite and Saturday nite!!! 10pm-6am!!! We'll take it! She didn't do it last nite but that's ok... it'll come soon enough. I've already weeded the landscaping and Lily's garden, MiracleGrow-d all the plants in pots and a few other misc things. I get a ton done when Lance is occupying M's time. It was recently asked "Who has time to nap during the day?". Said person looked directly at me?! WTH?? I said "I certainly don't! Have you tried being a single parent (during the week) with a house and animals to take care of along with a newborn?" Obviously not! The magic housecleaning fairy DOES NOT frequent the Haugen household unfortunately. Needless to say, I quickly pointed out the errors of their comment and explained that since Makenna was born, I have taken 1 nap for 1 hour while my mom watched her last weekend. Even if I did nap during the day, it is completely understandable as I'm up during the night with her while you (said person) are sleeping soundly with uninterrupted sleep.
Some people just.don't.think.

Other than that, we had a great weekend of playing at the lake...not in it as it's too chilly for Miss M, picnics with great friends and enjoying the sun. I had a glorious 90 minute hot stone massage to try to help allievate the numbness and tingling in between the shoulder blades. It was great but the tingling is still there. I still loved it!

Here are some pics of the rapidly growing Miss Makenna:

This is the way she sleeps sometimes??!

Sorry!!

for the silence! We've had some busy days and crazy evenings with a crabby baby so by the time she's asleep, I'm beat. I will post a great post tomorrow after I've had myself a LARGE diet dew, a massage to get rid of this numbness/tingling between my shoulder blades and a break! Makenna is the best baby ever and I love her to death but I was seriously contemplating the need to pack up my horse and truck and trailer and run away from home! She didn't seem to care when I told her...it sure didn't stop the screaming so I'm still here:) Makenna and Lance are going to spend some quality time together tonight and I'm going to hide out in my scraproom and get that organized or I'm going to be drinking on the patio... not sure which! My mom is coming over today for her grandbaby fix...yay for Grandmas!!!!

Happy weekend:)

One Year Ago...

One year ago, around 9pm, our hearts were absolutely shattered with the loss of our 1st baby Lily Ann Hope. We. were. devastated. By far the worst few days of our life.

One month ago, at 6:37pm, our hearts were bursting with joy at the arrival of our 2nd baby Makenna Zophia. Thrilled doesn't even begin to explain how we felt when we first saw her. We're falling more and more in love with her each and every day.

What a difference 1 year makes! 2009 is SO MUCH BETTER!!!

It's truly a double edged sword... I would give almost anything to have Lily back. BUT if we didn't lose Lily, we wouldn't have Makenna. I certainly don't want to give her up either. Can't I have my cake and eat it too? Obviously not:/

So on Lily's 1st heavenly birthday, I want to tell her we miss her and love her and thank her for watching over us and her little sister. I know she's an angel in heaven and is probably entertaining her great-grandpas in the same way Makenna is entertaining us! Until we meet again baby girl....
Love you,
Mommy & Daddy

This 3rd of July...

is SO much better than last year. There is ABSOLUTELY NO comparison! Now I know the day is young and I don't want to jinx it but I only see today getting better. Makenna and I are heading to New York Mills this afternoon for the 4th of July parade because they are celebrating the town's 125 year anniversary and my Grandma is the Queen of the Parade! I'll make sure to post pics this weekend or Monday.

Have a great 4th of July weekend! Be safe:)
